Korean Appliance Buttons
Appliances in Korean homes and guesthouses usually have Korean-only labels. Here is what the common ones mean.
Washing machine (세탁기)
| Korean | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 전원 | Power |
| 시작/일시정지 | Start / Pause |
| 표준 | Normal cycle |
| 쾌속 | Quick wash |
| 울/섬세 | Wool / Delicates |
| 이불 | Bedding (bulky items) |
| 헹굼 | Rinse |
| 탈수 | Spin |
| 물온도 | Water temperature |
| 세제 | Detergent |
Quick start: press 전원 (Power) → choose 표준 (Normal) or 쾌속 (Quick) → press 시작 (Start). Many Korean washers lock the door while running.
Dryer (건조기)
Look for 표준건조 (normal dry) or 시간건조 (timed dry). Clean the lint filter (먼지필터) before each use.
Air conditioner (에어컨)
| Korean | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 운전/정지 | On / Off |
| 냉방 | Cooling |
| 제습 | Dehumidify |
| 송풍 | Fan only |
| 난방 | Heating (only on some models) |
| 풍량 | Fan speed |
| 예약/취침 | Timer / Sleep |
Most rooms are heated through the floor, not the air conditioner — see our boiler guide for that.

Take a photo of the panel and ask Tribby — it can read the labels for you.
